2nd Grade: Creating Good Questions

April 15, 2009 · No Comments

One of the first steps in the research process is coming up with good questions. After using a Jeopardy game to practice searching the New Book of Knowledge online encyclopedia, second graders have taken on a huge higher order thinking challenge: they are helping me write new questions. Here’s our process:

  1. Pick a SUBJECT
  2. Search SUBJECT
  3. Find an interesting FACT
  4. Write the question using: WHO? WHERE? WHAT? WHEN? WHY? or HOW MANY…?
  5. Write the ANSWER
  6. REVIEW–”Does the question  lead me to the correct SUBJECT?” “Does the question lead me to the correct FACT?”
